Learn moreSepoy Salunke was a hero of the 1971 war. A member of 15 Maratha Light Infantry, he was posthumously awarded the Mahavir Chakra on 6th December 1971.
During the 1971 Indo-Pak conflict, he sacrificed his life with heroic valor. After single-handedly destroying Pakistani tanks in the western sector, he was mortally wounded by enemy fire. His courageous actions cleared the path for the battalion’s advance.
Today, a bust of Sepoy Salunke stands on a pedestal at the entrance to Salunke Vihar. Set amidst a well-maintained garden and serene surroundings, the memorial exudes a sense of sanctity.
Every 6th of December, residents of Salunke Vihar observe Veer Salunke Divas. The bust is adorned with a garland to the sound of bugles, and a ‘samman guard’ presents arms in his honor.

They acquired 33.5 acres from the Maharashtra government under strict conditions, including a fixed occupancy price and restrictions on land use and subdivision. The project was executed in four phases, encountering delays in occupancy certification and legal challenges over land classification. AWCHSL was formed as a tenant co-partnership housing society, ensuring collective ownership and exclusive housing rights for serving and retired military personnel. Negotiations, bylaw revisions, and administrative efforts resolved disputes over society classification and naming, establishing a sustainable framework for long-term property management..
